Lt. Gen. (R) Asim Saleem Bajwa was commissioned in an Infantry Regiment after being passed out from Pakistan Military Academy Kakul. He is a graduate of Command and Staff College Quetta, National Defence University, Islamabad and Staff College Kimberley, UK. He holds Master’s Degree in Defence Studies from Kings College London (UK), and War Studies from National Defence University, Islamabad. He holds a vast experience of various command, staff and instructional appointments. He has commanded an Anti-Tank Battalion, an Infantry brigade Group and an infantry division in erstwhile Tribal Areas where he played a key role in stabilization efforts during various operations. He has been Brigade Major of an Infantry Brigade and Chief of Staff of a strike Corps. He has also been on the faculty of PMA Kakul, Command and Staff College Quetta and has served as a Deputy Military Secretary to the President of Pakistan. He is recipient of Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military) and Tamgha-e-Basalat. An avid reader and a keen Golfer. He is married and has three sons. He took over as Director General Inter Services Public Relations Directorate in June, 2012 and later as Commander Southern Command between 2017-2019. He was instrumental in kick starting and fast tracking of numerous development initiatives in Balochistan. After a long and illustrious military career, he was appointed Chairman CPEC Authority in November 2019. He has been recently given the honorary appointment of Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting in additional capacity.
