Pakistan Television Corporation Limited

Pakistan entered into Television Broadcasting age with a small pilot TV Station established at Lahore from where transmission was first beamed, in Black & White, with effect from 26 November 1964. Television Centres were established in Karachi and Islamabad in 1967 and in Peshawar and Quetta in 1974, then in Multan and AJK.

While introducing the biggest media organization of Pakistan, the broad perspective kept in mind was to inform and educate the people through wholesome entertainment and to inculcate in them a greater awareness of their own history, heritage, current problems and development as well as knowledge of the world at large. The main responsibility of PTV is to provide public service broadcasting not only within Pakistan but also outside Pakistan. It makes programmes for all its viewers in drama, documentaries current affairs, entertainment and sport. Its programmes are produced in Urdu as well as in all regional languages i.e Sindhi, Punjabi, Pashto and Balochi. While producing its programmes it pays due attention to the interest and aspirations of all strata of society and tries to reflect those effectively in its programmes.

PTV terrestrial coverage is about 90% of the population of Pakistan and its channels received via satellite in South Asia, East Asia and the Middle East, Africa, United Kingdom, Europe and North America.

PTV Channels

PTV operates the following channels:

PTV Home – 24-hour entertainment channel, the transmission is broadcast across Pakistan on terrestrial network and worldwide through satellite.

PTV News – 24-hour Urdu News channel which can be viewed in many parts of the globe.

PTV Sports – 24-hour sports channel that started its regular transmission from January 2012.

PTV World – 24-hour English News and Current affairs channel. It was launched in January 2013.

PTV National – Broadcasting programmes in different languages to represent the whole of Pakistan.

AJK TV – For the residents of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

PTV Bolan – For speakers of Balochi Pashto and Brahvi.

PTV Global – Offered exclusively for the Pakistani living in the United States and Europe.

PTV Parliament – Launched on 30 May 2018, will bring live proceedings of Parliament of Pakistan.
