Muhammad Saleem Baig
Chairman PEMRA, Muhammad Saleem is a RAVIAN and studied Political Science in Government College Lahore. During his stay in Government College, besides studies, he was active in literary and extracurricular activities. Remained President of Student Union as well as of Debating Club, won several medals and shields in various inter college competitions and National level. After attaining Masters Degree, he qualified competitive exam of Pakistan and joined Information Service Group of Pakistan. In
MOIB, he has the honour to serve with several Prime Ministers of Pakistan including the late Benazir Bhutto as well as several Federal Ministers. During his service in the MOIB, he served as Director General (Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation), Director General (DEMP) and remained Principal Information Officer (PIO) twice. In the year 2018, he was appointed as Chairman of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) through a transparent competition and his selection as Chairman, PEMRA was validated by the Honorable Supreme Court of Pakistan. He has great passion for history and political science. He is an avid reader having a huge collection of books in his personal library. In his collection you would find some of the very rare books which have been collected from various parts of the country as well as from abroad.

INTRODUCTION
PEMRA has been established under PEMRA Ordinance 2002 to facilitate and regulate the private electronic media. It has mandate to improve the standards of information, education and entertainment and to enlarge the choice available to the people of Pakistan Including news, current affairs, religious knowledge, art and culture as well as science and technology.
MISSION
To facilitate and promote a free, fair and independent electronic media in Pakistan, and to ensure diversity and plurality, empowering audience and enhancing the maximum outreach of electronic media to the nooks and corners of country thus offering healthy education, information and entertainment to masses.
VISION
To evolve and promote a dynamic, objective and responsible electronic media free from influences and biases that uphold national integrity, sovereignty, ensure transparency, equity, accountability and fair play, promotes equality, cultural diversity, freedom and provide access to information.
FUNCTIONS AND SERVICES
The Authority is responsible for facilitating and regulating the establishment and operation of all broadcast media and distribution services in Pakistan established for the purpose of international, national, provincial, district, and local or special target audiences.
