Mr. Shafqat Abbas

Mr. Shafqat Abbas, a BS-20 officer of Information Group; is a senior bureaucrat, during 20 years of service he has served at different positions in different departments. Besides serving as Director General Public Relation, Regional Information Office, Press Information Department, Lahore, he is also heading the Office of the Press Registrar, Islamabad.

ORGANOGRAM

INTRODUCTION

Office of the Press Registrar has been created under the Act of Parliament - 2002 with the mandate to regularize and mainstream the Print Media. The objective is to facilitate the Print Media and to promote level playing field for all media houses including the new entrants.

The Press Registrar Office specially focuses on the uplift of regional media and also discourages monopoly in the print media.

MISSION

VISION

Office of the Press Registrar has been established under Press, Newspapers, News Agencies and Books Registration Ordinance – 2002 to keep centralized record of every newspaper published in Pakistan.

FUNCTIONS AND SERVICES

I. To keep centralized record of all newspapers/publications, news agencies and printing presses
II. NOC (No Objection Certificate) for availability of name for the title of newspaper/publication, news agency and printing press after cross check of title from the lists compiled on the information received from all four Provinces including Islamabad, AJK and Gilgit Baltistan. This office also issues NOCs for other stations, change of periodicity/language/printer or owner/publishership.
III. Issuance of Registration Certificate in favour of newspapers/publications, news agencies and printing presses.
IV. Renewal of Registration Certificate after expiry which remains valid for three years from the date of issuance.
V. Suo moto action under Section 19 of Ordinance-2002.
VI. Redressal of complaints received through PM Citizen Portal or direct.

REGIONAL OFFICES

The Regional Offices of Press Registrar are being managed with support of Press Information Department and currently the officers of the said department are looking after the task of Press Registrar at Lahore, Karachi, Hyderabad, Multan, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Quetta, and Gilgit.
