Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has expressed the hope that progress on implementation of US-Taliban Peace Agreement would be maintained to achieve its stated objectives of a peaceful political settlement in Afghanistan.

He expressed these views in a meeting with Special Envoy of Foreign Minister of Qatar, Dr. Mutlaq bin Majed Al-Qahtani in Islamabad, during which they discussed matters of mutual interest, with a special focus on Afghan peace process.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan supports the intra-Afghan negotiations as it is a historic opportunity for establishment of durable peace and stability in Afghanistan and the region.

He said Pakistan strongly believes in a negotiated settlement of the conflict in Afghanistan, as there is no military solution of it.

Emphasizing that peace and stability in Afghanistan are in Pakistan’s interest, the Foreign Minister underscored the need to remain vigilant of the role of spoilers seeking to undermine the peace process.
